Located at 40 High St close to the seafront, this much-loved establishment is a great place to unwind for a couple of hours. Especially if you like those classic Django Reinhardt vibes.
The other week I had the pleasure of playing an unusual, private Guitar Duo concert with the renowned bandleader, arranger and general beast of a musician, Peter Long!
Peter is known for many things - ex Jools Holland Band Musical Director and The Guardian's Jazz Album Of The Year for his Duke Ellington inspired big band arrangement of Holst's The Planet Suite amongst others.
I've been playing rhythm in his Pocket Basie Band and Orchestra for a few years now and always look forward to hanging out with the maestro and performing.
Although he's generally known for being a blinding tenor sax and clarinet player, Pete actually plays most instruments quite proficiently. Guitar is a fairly new one but he's been practising for a while now (he loves a bit of Freddy Green flat four rhythm style).
So basically I got a call to do a private concert for about thirty people in a castle! They were all retired classical/opera types, so I thought it would be cool to unleash Pete on them, as I figured a lot of them would know who he is.
I was surprised that he was available for a start but even more so when he rocked up with his guitar instead of clarinet!
It was great and the audience really dug it! He even knew a bunch of Django tunes too.

The venue is the popular Rosslyn Court in Margate, Kent.
This workshop will focus on the two main principles of Django-style, rhythm accompaniment and melody/solo playing.
No theory or reading is necessary as the 'folk' tradition of this style is very much aural.
The emphasis will be on playing and having fun through learning.
There will be lots of cool tips and tricks to take away and apply to your playing even if you've had no experience of this style before.
