The JONNY HEPBIR QUARTET seen above playing 'Crazy Rhythm' with Mike Piggott on Violin and the great Andy Panayi on Tenor Sax.
This video clip captures the energy and cool vibes from our concert for Splashpoint Jazz in Eastbourne, East Sussex recently. It was great to play to a packed house and a treat for everyone, band included, to have our old friend, renowned multi-instrumentalist Andy come and sit in for a few numbers.
As usual with many of our concert performances, we mixed up a few line-up variations to keep things interesting and fresh.

GYPSY JAZZ GUITAR WORKSHOP
An acoustic guitar workshop for players of all ages and abilities in the style of Django Reinhardt from the 1930's & 1940’s.
Django Reinhardt (1910-1953). Despite suffering terrible injuries after a fire at the age of 18, this Belgium born guitarist went on to develop a unique way of playing that even today is revered and copied all over the world.
Although the music Django played had origins in early jazz, the guitar techniques he used can be applied to all types of guitar playing where a plectrum is used.
This workshop will focus on the two main principles of Django-style, rhythm accompaniment and melody/solo playing.
No theory or reading is necessary as the 'folk' tradition of this style is very much aural.
The emphasis will be on playing and having fun through learning.
There will be lots of cool tips and tricks to take away and apply to your playing even if you've had no experience of this style before.
Workshop Requirements – An acoustic guitar & plectrum.
Workshop is from 2-6pm but attendees are asked to arrive at 1.45pm for tea/coffee and introduction chat.
